The letterbooks (ca. 400 pages each) are for the years 1884-1890 (mostly business-related, some family, and references to Colorado), 1899-1902 (mentions explorations, his arctic drift-cask proposal, the Arctic Club, references to Frederick Cook, and to Bryant's geographical trips), 1902-1903 (relating to his cask project, the American Philosophical Society, with an interesting letter to Robert Peary dated January 15, 1903, p. 52), 1913-1918 (more business-related letters than on geography or exploration). The loose items are letters relating primarily to the American Alpine Club.
